Crossing Half a Continent
I’m no stranger to big moves. When I first did my masters, I moved all the way from Chile to Estonia carrying, I think, one 23 kilo bag and a large backpack. And then, after finishing my PhD, I had to undo the move and head back to Chile. Then I moved back again, this time to the Czech Republic. Once again carrying a single 23kg bag, though I want to think my packing was smarter that time (less books in the bag, more books in my e-reader).
This time I’m in Spain, once again with a single 20kg bag, and though as a move it feels quite closer than hopping hemispheres, it’s still hard to choose what to take and what to leave behind. Especially when you seem to collect a never-ending amount of small things as I tend to. In any case, it’s a change in weather, language, mores, moods, and whatnot. And it’s as exciting as it is exhausting.
Anyway, the situation as it stands is, I’ll be here for a couple of years to do a research project (the one you can read about on the homepage). So that’s really the fun news. I will try to write in more detail both here and on the project website as a way to keep track of things, though blog promises are only as good as the time and need for writing. We’ll see.
